About Education

Department of Education was established in the year 1964. Sri Gunaram Dutta, MA was the founder faculty member of the departmentSri Narendra Nath Sarmah and Sri Prabhat Ch. Dutta joined the department in later period. Sri Narendra Nath Sarmah and Sri Prabhat Ch. Dutta became the Vice-Principal of the college. Sri Narendra Nath Sarmah of this department was a Principal-in-Charge of the college for sometime. Ms. Namanjali Borah and Ms. Kongki Devi secured 1st Class 1st position in Education Major in BA final examination from this department in 2012 and 2016 respectively. Many students from this department excel in various fields of life.


Eligibility for Admission : For Major course, minimum 45% in aggregate and 50% marks in Education in HS Examination.


Programme Specific Outcome (PSO)

PSO 1:

This programme helps the students to learn the teaching skills.


PSO 2:  

This programme enables the students to learn the psychology which helps them in any profession.


PSO 3:

This programme makes the students aware of the socialization process, various sociological issues and adjustment mechanism in society.


PSO 4:

Through this programme the students will know the basic concepts of child growth and development, different factors affecting development and role of different agencies for smooth development.


PSO 5:  

As this subject is primarily related with teaching profession (other scopes are also available), students get ideas about the various methods of teaching to motivate the students towards learning by applying technology and psychological thinking.


PSO 6:

This programme develops the philosophical and educational thoughts of the students by acquainting them with some eminent philosophers and educationists (both Indian and Western) and their relevance in present context.


PSO 7:

This programme helps the students to know contemporary socio-cultural, economic, political and environmental factors of various countries through their education system.


PSO 8:

This programme helps the students for higher studies like B.Ed, M.A, and M.Ed.


PSO 9: 

This programme helps the students in different training courses like DIET, BTC, and TET etc.


PSO 10:

This programme enables the students to enter higher studies in psychology department also and get jobs as psychological consultant, psychologist in different department and mental hospital etc

Paper 2: Sociological Foundations of Education


This paper provides knowledge about the concept of educational sociology & its different theories.

This paper helps to understand the role of education in different social processes such as socialization process, social mobility, social stratification, modernization etc.

This paper helps to understand the role of education i9n change and development of society.



This paper enables to know the different political ideologies and their bearings on education.


Paper 3: Educational Psychology


This paper enables to understand the meaning of psychology and its importance in teaching profession.

This paper helps to know about the physical, mental, social and emotional development of child at various stages of development and also familiarized with some factors that affected in child development.


CO 3:

This paper helps to understand the different factor of learning including concepts of motivation, attention, interest and memory.

This paper helps to understand about personality, emotion and instincts etc.

This paper introduces the concept of mental health and hygiene for better adjustment in society.

This paper develops the understanding about the meaning of measurement and evaluation and its importance in education system.



This paper helps to acquaint with some general tools of measurement and evaluation and specific tools to measure intelligence, personality and aptitude.

Familiarize the students with meaning and application of statistics in measurement and evaluation.
